N.C. Fruits & Veggies Star Awards Announced

RALEIGH - Thirteen organizations from across the state received awards today for their work in promoting healthy eating with fruits and vegetables.
The N.C. Fruits & Veggies Nutrition Coalition's Fruits & Veggies Star Awards were presented at an annual symposium that provides education and networking for health educators and nutrition professionals. The event was held at at Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte.
The annual awards recognize successful programs in six areas: school district, individual school/child care, worksites, community/civic group, healthcare, and business/other.

Eat Smart North Carolina: Bring Fresh Produce to Your Setting was released on Saturday, November 10 at the 22nd Annual Sustainable Agriculture Conference sponsored by the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association. The document, which is produced by the NC Division of Public Health Physical Activity and Nutrition Branch, North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Sciences, Active Living by Design, North Carolina Cooperative Extension, and Center for Environmental Farming Systems, provides information for anyone who would like to have fresh fruits and vegetables available for sale at their worksite, place of worship or neighborhood. It's time to celebrate by encouraging kids and their parents to enjoy a colorful variety of fruits and vegetables each day. The materials found in this year’s Explore the World with Fruits and Vegetables kit include a coordinator’s guide, brochure, adult and kid recipe cards, interactive worksheets, and posters. 2007 NC Fruits & Veggies Star Awards Announced
CHARLOTTE – The winners of the 2007 North Carolina Fruits & Veggies Star Awards were announced on August 8, 2007 by the NC Fruits & Veggies Nutrition Coalition (formerly the NC 5 A Day Coalition) at their annual symposium in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The NC Fruits & Veggies Nutrition Coalition, in collaboration with the N.C. Division of Public Health and other statewide partners, awarded five organizations for their innovative efforts to promote the positive health benefits of eating five or more servings of fruits and vegetables a day.
The annual awards recognize successful programs in three areas: school/child care, worksites and business/other.
